Customer experience quotes to inspire you for 2014

Welcome to 2014. It’s a new year and we are going to have some great new content on the blog this coming year.

Just to start our commentary for the New Year, here are some quotes about customer service that come from some more unusual sources. Not MBA professors or customer service executives, but some names you will probably recognise and respect:

“A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.”

Mahatma Gandhi

“The key is to set realistic customer expectations, and then not to just meet them, but to exceed them — preferably in unexpected and helpful ways.”

Richard Branson

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.”

Charles Darwin

“It is not the employer who pays the wages. Employers only handle the money. It is the customer who pays the wages.”

Henry Ford

“Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.”

Walt Disney

“Nothing is so contagious as enthusiasm.”

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

And one final one from a man who has been renowned for years because of his influence on how retail works across the world:

“There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else.”

Sam Walton, Founder of Wal-Mart

Mohandas K. Gandhi
